Spoak is a digital studio for interior design lovers to practice and gather. Our community isn't just a marketing channel, it’s the product.
You'll be our first dedicated community hire, and you'll build the programs that bring Spoak to life. As part of a very small team, this role is equal parts strategist and operator: you'll take a big idea, strategize and design exactly how it should work, and then make it happen.
One day you're writing the playbook for our campus ambassador program, the next you're hosting an artful dinner party at a member’s house, and the next you're sourcing members for home tours and spotlights.
You'll report directly to the founder & CEO, Hilah, and your work drives our two biggest growth loops: members sharing Spoak with their networks, and member-made content that brings new people in.
Most of your initiatives will follow the same arc:
We're looking for someone who loves all three steps. If you only want to do strategy, or only want to be handed a finished plan, this probably isn't the right fit.
Build a vibrant and engaged online community
Build innovative and exciting programs to bring the community together both online and IRL
Build a program of reward, recognition and surprise-and-delight so members feel noticed, appreciated and inspired
Build a content strategy and pipeline powered by community content and activity
Goals: Kick off Campus Ambassador program at 2-3 schools; launch first AMA; launch first Design Club; Members produce a meaningful share of Spoak's social content.
KPIs: Community engagement (active contributors)
Each program you've designed runs on its own; The number of members who post, reply or attend events each week is climbing; Monthly programming is steady and highly attended, both digitally and in-person; You have developed and launched a few net new community activations.
You’re excited about owning strategy, development, and execution. You can take a high level vision and come back with a plan detailed enough that someone else could run it. But you’re happy to then run it yourself.
You welcome feedback and still own the outcome. You're happy to have your plan pushed on and redirected, but you don't wait for permission once it's approved.
You've built or grown a community before, at a consumer brand, creator business, or tech company that bridges in-person community.
You'll do any part of the work. You're equally comfortable writing a program spec, moderating a tense thread, and arranging a tablescape for a dinner party in someone’s dining room.
You have great taste, or at least a sharp eye for it in other people. You love interiors, design or making things.
You write well and quickly, in a warm voice with a point of view.
You write clear briefs. You can lay out how something works, what it requires, and what could go wrong in a format that's easy to collaborate and give feedback on.
You follow through. Nothing falls through the cracks. You don’t need to be reminded or nudged to get anything done.
To apply, email your resume and a case study of a community initiative you ran that details your specific role across 1) strategy, 2) development, and 3) execution, and what the results were to careers@spoak.com with the subject line “Head of Community application”.
