The Hudson Valley: A Design Lover’s Guide to Our Favorite Neck of the Woods

Just a short (under 3-hour) drive or a train ride away from the hustle and bustle of New York City, the Hudson Valley feels like the ultimate New York secret that you want to keep to yourself only to enjoy with your closest friends. We hate to spoil it for you, but the region is the furthest thing from a secret at this point. That doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy it, though! There's more than enough small businesses and local makers to go around for everyone.

Made up of 10 counties, the Hudson Valley is a treasure trove of incredible dining, gorgeous hotels, and the best shopping a design lover could ever imagine. There’s a little bit of something here for everyone — the foodie, nature lover, gallery hopper, designer (yes, even your picky in-laws visiting from out of town!). As a Hudson Valley-based company, we’re thrilled to share some of our favorite local spots that make this region so special.

Stay

A former 1920s movie theater, Rivertown Lodge is what Scandinavian dreams are made of (with a side of Wes Anderson-esque style). Pro-Tip: Catch an early-bird dinner at the Tavern downstairs for easy seating and delicious eats.

Upscale hotel in the heart of Hudson. The hotel’s design style flexes between 19th-century Industrial Design, La Belle Époque, Art Deco, and Mid-Century. The rooms are a splurge but don’t miss out on stopping by this gem even if you aren’t staying there.

Cozy, curated, and luxurious, Little Cat Lodge is a newer addition to the Hudson Valley. We love the lodge's design, but another big selling point is the location. It’s within walking distance of Catamount Resort for skiing, snowboarding, tubing, zip-lining, road cycling, mountain biking, golfing, hiking, you name it!

Eat & Drink

A Hollywood glamour feeling restaurant hidden in Woodstock. You’ll always have a good night at Good Night (sorry, we couldn’t resist).

A pocket-sized wine bar that dreams are made of. They focus on low-intervention wine and small bites like tinned fish, shrimp rolls, and butter noodles.

A speak-easy style wine bar. Ever wish you could drink wine while you shop for home goods? That’s sort of what Bar Bene has going on.

An intimate, moody cocktail bar in an old carriage house. Step inside to be transported into another era.

Named one of America’s best new restaurants. If you love savory things, then you'll love this. Be prepared to wait in line here, but it’s worth it.

Upscale deli food by day, swanky restaurant by night. Located right across from the Amtrak station, it's our favorite place to stop for a breakfast sandwich on our way in or out of town.

Do & See

A farm experience. With a wide variety pick-your-own fruits (berries, apples, stone fruit, oh my!), a modern taproom open year-round featuring their own wines and ciders, and a rotating cast of local food trucks, there is something for the whole fam. Stop by for a quick fix or spend the whole day.

A flower shop that sells sauerkraut, duh. Come for a bouquet, leave with that, plus a pint of sauerkraut, hot sauce, and a candle.
