Benches are long seats, usually made of wood, that several people can sit on. In design, you often see them placed at the foot of the bed, in home entryways or office lobbies, on a porch, along a dining table, or mixed with other seating arrangements. Benches can come with or without a back, and they usually have storage underneath (not always, though!).

While benches are usually meant for seating, they can also be a useful piece of furniture to style objects on (like a stack of coffee table books). Seat height for a bench is usually at 16"-18", depth at 16"-24".
