Make sure your bed doesn't block natural light.

Even in the bedroom, natural light is an important design element. So when deciding where to place your bed, don't forget to consider the windows! While the layout of your room may make it impossible to avoid placing the bed in front of a window, you can always opt for a low bed frame to ensure you are still letting in as much natural light as possible.

Incorporate end-of-bed furniture pieces to maximize function.

When you have the space, incorporating end-of-bed furniture pieces can be a great way to maximize the function of your bedroom layout and bring in an extra design element. Utilize benches, storage chests, or even small sofas to add coziness and dimension.

Add a reading nook to give your bedroom more charm and interest.

Whether it's a small chair, lamp, and side table in the corner of your room, a small loveseat, or a window seat, adding an area for a reading nook is another way to make the most of your square footage and create a little bit of charm and interest.

Incorporate a home office space thoughtfully.

If you're using your bedroom as a home office space by day, plan your layout carefully to make each room's purpose feel separate. Use task lighting that you can turn off at night to distinguish your office space, add decor pieces to your desk to bring in personality, and consider softer, rounder lines when choosing a desk or office chair.

Think out of the box with your nightstands.

If you don't have space for two nightstands or want to mix them up, don't be afraid to think out of the box with your nightstands! Use two contrasting pieces, only one piece, or something unexpected. A stack of books, a vintage suitcase or stool, or even a bar cart can function as a nightstand and provide a place to hold a lamp, a glass of water, or your favorite candle.

Utilize room dividers to break up the layout in your room.

Room dividers are a great way to add form and function to your bedroom space and break up the layout. Whether you live in a studio apartment, want to separate your sleeping space from your working space, or want to add a decorative element, try a room divider to add interest.

Style a rug for added comfort and coziness.

Even if you have carpeted floors, a rug is a simple way to ground the space in your bedroom and make it feel complete. As a rule of thumb, place at least two-thirds of your rug on the bed to avoid that "floating" look. A rug underneath your bed can also help visually divide the space from other bedroom functions like working or lounging.

Add lighting to enhance your bedroom layout.

Lighting is essential in any room, but especially in the bedroom. Use ceiling lights with Up Lighting to get a softer, more flattering light in the bedroom, and add in table lamps and floor lamps to create even more ambiance.
