Contemporary

The word “contemporary” is often thrown out in the design world, but what does it actually mean? (We thought you’d never ask.) Contemporary design is all about staying current and on-trend. Unlike our other design style friends, traditional and mid-century modern, contemporary design isn’t tied to a specific time period. It evolves with whatever is happening at the time (major Libra energy) and often borrows from modernism, minimalism, and art deco. For example, if bold wallpaper with bright color-coordinated accents is trending right now, it will be considered contemporary. If you're looking for a way to bring a modern, on-trend feel to your space, the contemporary style might just be the ticket.

One of the hallmarks of contemporary design is a neutral color palette. Think shades of white, beige, gray, and black—these colors will provide a clean and polished backdrop for the other design elements in the room. But just because the color scheme is neutral doesn't mean the design has to be boring. You didn’t think we would stray you wrong, did you?

To achieve a contemporary look in your home, focus on furniture and accessories that are sleek and streamlined. Look for pieces with clean lines and simple shapes, like oversized accent chairs and bulbous coffee tables. And don't be afraid to play with textures and patterns (hint: we have a class for that if you need some help!) to add some interest to your space—a shaggy area rug or a geometric throw pillow can go a long way towards making a contemporary space feel cozy and inviting.
